family fun

Last week on June 9th, I went for a trip up to North-West Florida to visit my family for a week and while I was there I had a chance to take some photos of the family. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take all of my stuff with me so umbrellas, light stands, adapters and the like but I did manage to use my mom’s tripod for her video camera as a make shift light stand as well as my little flimsy pocket size tripod that I found at the local goodwill.

jordanAfter finding a couple adapters in my bag to attach the tripods to the flash hot-shoes I was all set to roll out some hard lighting. Not the best type of lighting for little ones in my opinion but it was better than strapping a flash onto the camera in TTL mode. If you know me, then you know that I like to shoot my flash off camera when ever possible so I always try and find a way to be a dedicated Strobist even when most people wouldn’t bother. All in all I walked away with some some beautiful photos of my 2 nieces as well as a couple of my 2 cousins.

As well as getting to take some photos of my nieces that I haven’t seen in a few months, I had the opportunity to shoot some concert photos at Pier Park in Panama City for a band called Bonerama. The experience was definitely a learning one and I got a few great band shots I think but it was a lot more difficult than I would have imagined it to be. Not to mention I was shooting at night… The band was great though and if they happen to be in your area anytime you should definitely check them out.

In the end I had a great time with my family and walked away with a number of photos that I was quite pleased with. I couldn’t ask for more. If you’re interested, more photos from the trip can be found on my flickr website. check em out!
